The Living through Loss Counselling Society of BC in Association with the Vancouver Centre for Loss and Bereavement will be holding a workshop for health-care providers, residential care workers and at home care givers who work daily with people suffering Dementia related diseases.
Alzheimer’s Society of Canada estimates that there are over 500,000 Canadians who have dementia with projections of double that number by 2020. Currently training and support to our caregivers is at best limited and unevenly distributed across the country.
This intro workshop looks at the grief response, protracted grief or what some call “living grief”, disenfranchised grief and effective interventions that caregivers can use to protect themselves in these situations as well as too better support the person they are caring for and their families.
